gradirripas

Gradirripas is a small family business run by the Violante family, which has been transmitting its knowledge from generation to generation since 1885 (and there are already 5 generations) and giving new ways of life to wood.

It is in Pernes, a small town between the cities of Santarém and Torres Novas, where they have the workshop and have been making a constant and quality work for more than 130 years, respecting the Portuguese roots and traditions, recovering some products in disuse solutions as old as useful.

Although their philosophy is based on the saying – the true wisdom is in simplicity – they have been able to turn the wooden boards into something more than a work product to prepare food, being able to occupy a special place at the table, as one more kitchen accessory.

To better meet the expectations and needs of their customers, they have specialized in three types of wood: pine, ash and oak, all certified and whose suppliers have reforestation policies.

Small, family, local

This value is reflected in the relationships they establish every day with their suppliers or customers. Around this principle they have naturally adopted behaviours and strategies that defend what they value.

All their employees are highly experienced people who live in their village or nearby, most of them also with family roots in the world of wood, skilled and talented people who, however, are in a precarious employment situation.

Supporting the local economy

Its main supplier network, with which it covers the daily needs of our business, is located in Pernes and its surroundings. When that is not possible, they always find a solution in Portugal, prioritizing local woods over the rest, which leads them to reduce the carbon footprint inherent in their production process.

No waste

Aware of the environmental impact of their activity, they only buy wood from suppliers who ensure reforestation. And they use their raw material to the maximum, transforming what would be a waste into useful products of daily use.

What they cannot really reuse, goes to small local companies (wood for the bakery ovens, shavings for the poultry litter…).
