The essence of Goboshop

GOBOSHOP reinvents traditional craft processes with digital manufacturing techniques to create sustainable and innovative lamps. These techniques allow them to reduce the cost of high-quality designs and produce products that would be impossible by conventional techniques.

Its story

This Spanish project was born from the idea of capturing in original lamps the passion for contemporary interior design and the fascinating effects that light can makes on them. To achieve this, they identified a problem related to traditional manufacturing: many times it complicates bringing innovative ideas to market due to its high cost and limitations. As a consequence of that, human creativity is hampered and environmental worries increase. As a result, they have reinvented the way lighting systems are developed and manufactured, allowing designers to create cutting-edge and functional products tailored to today’s environmental needs.

Its production processes

GOBO is committed to local manufacturing with the solid conviction that products must be as close as possible to where they are consumed and where the raw material comes from. This reduces unnecessary transportation, which is one of the biggest pollutants in the world.

The material that they use in their sustainable lamps is a biodegradable polymer derived from lactic acid, which is produced from 100% renewable resources, such as corn, beets, wheat and other products rich in starch. This differentiates this material from other commonly used plastics that are obtained from non-renewable oil reserves and therefore harm the environment.

Finally, it’s interesting to highlight the main manufacturing means that GOBO uses in all its products: 3D printing. This technology applied to lighting systems is novel and innovative since it allows to obtain a great variety of very complex products, impossible to obtain through traditional crafts. In addition, industrial manufacturing is linked to overproduction and therefore to a greater generation of waste, while 3D technology allows manufacturing of short series or a smaller and controlled volume, without unnecessary waste.
